Grok 5 Is Coming: And xAI Is Moving INSANELY Fast!!!

Grok 5 was supposed to arrive before the end of 2025. That deadline has now been missed by 267 days — and Elon Musk’s language has shifted from saying Grok 5 had a “shot at being true AGI” to simply: “Maybe better than anything. We shall see.”

But while Grok 5 itself remains largely hidden, new filings reveal something much more concrete: the infrastructure being built to train it.

In this video, we separate what xAI and SpaceX have actually documented from what Musk has predicted about Grok 5. Securities material explicitly names Grok 5 and connects its training to Colossus II, but there’s still no verified parameter count, architecture, context window, benchmark score, training-token count, price, or release date. That includes the viral six-trillion-parameter claim, which currently has no company documentation behind it.

Meanwhile, xAI has been moving quickly through Grok 4.5, Grok 4.6 and Grok 4.7. Those three models arrived across just 67 days, but the details show why that pace is more complicated than it looks. Grok 4.5 involved a major training run, 4.6 received supplemental training and extensive agentic reinforcement learning, and xAI says Grok 4.7 uses a new, larger base model with longer-horizon RL.

Grok 4.7 also exposes an important problem with AI benchmark headlines. xAI reports Terminal-Bench 4.0 jumping from 20.3 to 37.6, alongside gains on EEBench and CursorBench. But Grok 4.7 was tested at xHigh reasoning while Grok 4.6 was tested at High, meaning the comparison doesn’t isolate improvements in the model itself. Independent evaluations also paint a more nuanced picture against GPT-5.6 Sol, GPT-6 Astra, Claude Fable 5.1 and Opus 5.5.

Then there’s Colossus.

xAI says the original Colossus was built in 122 days, while NVIDIA reported roughly 19 days from the first rack installation to training on around 100,000 GPUs. SpaceX filings now describe Colossus and Colossus II as providing roughly 1 gigawatt of compute power combined, with another 400 megawatts planned.

And xAI isn’t necessarily keeping all that compute to itself. SpaceX filings disclose a compute agreement with Anthropic carrying a headline rate of $1.25 billion per month — potentially turning the infrastructure behind Grok into a business serving one of xAI’s biggest AI rivals.

But scaling Colossus has created another constraint: power. We examine the Memphis and Southaven natural-gas turbine dispute, what environmental groups allege, xAI’s position, and why the available evidence does not support treating the disputed Clean Air Act claims as a settled court finding.

Finally, we look at what xAI appears to be building toward: longer autonomous tasks, model-generated training data, hundreds of parallel agents, Grok Bot, Grok Build, and increasingly large training systems. Musk says the unreleased Grok 4.8 is a 2.5-trillion-parameter model running on a rewritten C++ training stack, but there’s no model card yet to independently examine that claim.

And that brings us back to AGI.

Musk has described Grok 5 as having a chance of reaching AGI, assigned it a 10% probability, and later predicted it would be AGI or something indistinguishable from it. But without an operational definition, published tests, independent benchmarks, or a model anyone outside xAI can evaluate, there’s currently no way to verify that prediction.

The road to Grok 5 is increasingly visible. Whether the model at the end of it represents a genuine qualitative leap remains unanswered.
